sprinter Decision Time

Decision Time Set for San Domenico Stakes - 08-03-10

August 3 - For Australian racehorse trainer Clarry Conners, the $125,000 San Domenico Stakes (Gr 1) over 1000m is the ideal race for his sprinter Decision Time, which is scheduled for Saturday at Randwick Racecourse in Sydney.

Under jockey Craig Williams, Decision Time finished an impressive second to Crystal Lily in the epic $3.5-million Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1) at Rosehill Gardens in Sydney, and then went on to win a barrier trial at Warwick Farm.

In fact, Conners is so confident in the three-year-old's chances that he has brought in top-rated Queensland-based jockey Stathi Katsidis to ride him on Saturday, as it's no secret that Katsidis has evolved into one of Australia's best riders.

'Stathi is a fantastic rider,' said Conners. 'I would like him to come to Sydney full-time but I don't have a big enough stable to support him. I also hope he can ride Decision Time in the Up And Coming Stakes and maybe the Golden Rose.'

Along with Decision Time, Conners will be sending out stablemate Georgette Silk in the San Domenico Stakes, who will have top jockey Blake Shinn aboard, who won the 2008 Melbourne Cup on Viewed for legendary trainer Bart Cummings.

Georgette Silk, meanwhile, romped home first in the recent Widden Stakes on a slow track, and then went on to finish third in similar conditions in the Kindergarten Stakes before finishing down the field in this year's Golden Slipper Stakes.

Said Connors, 'Both horses have done really well and I'm happy with them, but I'm hoping the track won't be too heavy.'

On Saturday, Decision Time and Georgette Silk will face 10 other 3-year olds including Spirit Of Boom and Buffering, both of which are from Queensland. They finished second and third behind Pressday in the recent Champagne Stakes (Gr 2).
