Decision Time for Kentucky Derby Bettors - 05-02-08
May 2 - Tomorrow 20 horses will burst through the gates at Churchill Downs and the 134th Kentucky Derby will be under way, and hopefully your money will be on the right horse, naturally based on our legendary Kentucky Derby free tips, which you can find at the end of this article.
A lot of money will be on Big Brown at 3/1. Big Brown goes into Saturday's race with three emphatic victories and trainer Rick Dutrow is confident he has the best horse in the race. The top contender will be starting from post no 20. But not everyone will have their money on this colt because, as some may argue, the last time a horse won from post no 20 was in 1929.
At 4/1, Colonel John, the Santa Anita champ, is also in with a shout. The three-year old has won four times in six starts and last year was the first to cross the line at the Real Quiet Stakes. He starts from post no 10.
If this race is as tightly contested at the US Democratic presidential race, then perhaps your money should be on the only lady in the race, Eight Belles. This filly may only be 20/1 at the betting office, but the fact the woman who may soon lead the most powerful nation on earth has her money on this gal must surely count for something. Besides, she would not be the first filly to win here and would follow three other ladies into the history book.
Another fancied horse in the betting is Pyro, to be ridden by Jamaican jockey Shaun Bridgmorhan. The three-old colt was the race's favorite a few weeks ago but after disappointing at the Blue Grass Stake his odds at 6-1, make him Saturday's third choice in the betting.
The field is as follows:
Cool Coal Man
Tale of Ekati
Anak Nakal
Court Vision
Eight Belles
Z Fortune
Big Truck
Visionaire
Pyro
Colonel John
Z Humor
Smooth Air
Bob Black Jack
Monba
Adriano
Denis of Cork
Cowboy Cal
Recapturetheglory
Gayego
Big Brown
Our picks are: VISIONAIRE as the best longshot play in the race and Z FORTUNE as the best eachway betting value!
