Curtain Call At 10-1 For Epsom Classic - 04-22-08
April 22 - Luca Cumani is hoping that Curtain Call will go all the way this season and be his 2008 Epsom Derby horse.
Curtain Call is sitting on 10-1 odds for the Epsom Classic, but before he runs that race, he will make his season debut in the intercasino.co.uk Conditions Stakes against only 3 other horses tomorrow. This will be his first outing under trainer Luca Cumani. He has only been with Cumani since December last year. Cumani says that Curtain Call has wintered exceptionally well and that thus far they are very happy with his work. Cumani added that he is a very good looking horse, but they still needed to just wait and see what happens these next few weeks before deciding about the Epsom Classic.
It is thought that because of Curtain Calls breeding he is likely to prefer soft ground.
He had very good form when racing as a juvenile under trainer Jessica Harrington and was the Group 2 Beresford Stakes winner at the Curragh in September. He disappointed though when he came fifth in the Post Trophy at Doncaster last October. Cumani believes that he may have been over the top by that stage already, but can't be certain as he wasn't training him at that stage yet.
Curtain Call is sitting on joint second favourite with Stan James for the Vodafone Derby. The favourite, New Approach who has won his last 5 starts and had 3-1 odds has been withdrawn, leaving Twice Over as the 9-2 favourite for the race.
