Trainer Profile |
Christophe Clement |
Christophe Clement was born in Paris, France on 1 November 1965.
Clement's father Miguel was a leading horse trainer in France, and both
Christophe and his older brother Nicolas can attribute their training
talent from their father, and to growing up in the Chantilly yard.

While his brother,
Nicholas, chose to stay in Chantilly, France, Christophe was given the
opportunity to work under the French trainer Alec Head, and did so for a
year and a half, before relocating the United States in September 1986,
to train under Hall Of Fame Claude "Shug" McGaughey at the Taylor Made
Farm near Lexington, Kentucky, until November 1987. Upon his return to
Europe, he became the assistant to trainer Luca Cumani in Newmarket,
England, and remained with him for the next four years.
In 1990, Nicolas saddled Saumerez and won the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.
1991 saw Clement returning to the United States for good, and he opened
his own stable with six horses, with the first horse he saddled,
Spectaculaire, winning at
Belmont that same year. These days, Christophe
Clement Racing Stable typically has between 55 and 75 horses in
training.
In his career from 1991 through to December 2007, he has had 355
starters saddling 86 winners, earning him the ranking of 17th in the
nation.
He has also saddled over 130 graded stakes winners, and is rapidly 5,000
lifetime starters. |
