Chance Bye the Filly to Beat in Inglis Classic - 01-19-10

January 19 - On Saturday at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse in Sydney, Australia, punters will no doubt look forward to the AUD$250,000 Inglis Classic, a 1200m race that has attracted a pretty formidable field, including top-rated unbeaten filly and expected shoe-in to win the race, Chance Bye.

Trained by Michael Tubman, Chance Bye has won all of her races so far and does not look like stopping anytime soon. As proof of this, in her final prep for the Inglis Classic she was galloped over 1200m at Kembla Grange on Saturday, covering the distance in a time that had Tubman beaming.

'That was just sensational,' he said. 'Based on what she shows us on the track, if they can't run 1.07.5 in the Golden Slipper they won't be beating her. We just have to hope nothing goes wrong.' The trainer was referring to the coveted Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1), scheduled for April this year.

However, Tubman's confidence may have Chance Bye's fans lining up to place their bets come Saturday, but renowned Randwick trainer Grahame Begg seems largely unimpressed. 'She's a nice filly, but if you listen to her trainer, nobody else should bother turning up because it's already in the bag.'

Begg will be sending out his colt Ilovethiscity in the Inglis Classic. In his debut at Sydney's Randwick Racecourse on January 9 this year, the thoroughbred snatched third place. However, he was promoted to second after winner Third Man was relegated to third because his jockey caused interference.

The objection was brought against Third Man's rider, Nathan Berry, by Ilovethiscity's apprentice rider, Brenton Avdulla. Randwick race stewards found that under the guidance of Berry, Third Man drifted almost six horses wide in the closing stages of the race which was considered to be interference.

On Saturday seasoned Australian jockey Nash Rawiller will take the reigns of Ilovethiscity which should only increase the filly's popularity amongst betting fans. The Inglis Classic has attracted 14 nominations including Third Man trained by Rick Worthington and Spot The Rock trained by Tim Martin.
