Camelot Dominates Ante Post 2012 Derby Betting
Author: Marc Weinberg
October 22 - The Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster earlier today was the cakewalk that the betting market predicted, as Ballydoyle's latest talking horse proved what all the fuss was about. Camelot came into the race with a massive reputation, and left with an even bigger one. He is now quoted in 2012 Epsom Derby ante-post betting as no better than 3/1 to win.
Aiden O'Brien's unbeaten colt headed into the final Group One contest of the season in England as odds-on favourite at 10/11 despite only winning a maiden on his only previous start but this result was never in doubt under the trainer's son Joseph.
Camelot was always going much the best and finished two-and-a-quarter lengths clear of fellow Irish raider Zip Top.
The son of Montjeu had already been the subject of heavy ante-post support for next year's Epsom Classic but has now been cut further to 3/1 with bet365, Sky Bet and Ladbrokes while totesport, Betfred and Paddy Power offer a best of 4/1.
William Hill go 7/2 and their spokeswoman Lucy Rhodes said: "Punters who kept the faith in Ballydoyle after last week's defeat of the heavily-supported So You Think were duly rewarded as Camelot justified the hype in the premier juvenile Group One.
"The son of Montjeu will now head into the winter months with an even more lofty reputation to uphold with the mantle of Investec Derby favourite."
