The Breeders' Cup Juvenile race is raced on dirt and thoroughbred geldings and colts of 2 years old may enter. It's an annual race that is held at various racecourses in North America, but nearly always in the USA (Canada gets the nod when the blue moon is in the sky). The Breeders' Cup Juvenile is part of the Breeders' Cup which is also held annually at different racecourses.
The race has been different lengths over time. In 1984, 85 and 87 the race was exactly 1 mile. In 1986, 1988 to 2001 it was 1 and 1/16 miles. In 2002 it was 1 and 1/8th miles, and since 2003 it's been back at 1 and 1/16 miles.
When the he Preakness Stakes for 3 year olds was held in 1995, Timber Country became the first Breeders' Cup Juvenile champ to be victorious in a US Triple Crown race. In the years to follow winning the Juvenile at the Breeders' Cup meeting was something of a mixed blessing, as many victors failed to train on as older horses. That all changed this year when the Kentucky Derby was won by Street Sense, the 2006 winner of the Breeders' Cup Juvenile. The hex was broken, one might say.
