Trainer Profile |
Bobby Frankel |
Robert 'Bobby' J Frankel was born on July 9 1941 in Brooklyn New York.
Bobby
Frankel was apprentice to the often controversial Buddy Jacobson in the early 1960's and saddled his first winner in 1966. In 1967 he battled only winning 9 out of 101 starts. 1968 was a better year and he won 35 out of 165 starts. Over the next few years he gained in prominence and in the winter of the 1970-71 season he enjoyed some success at the Santa Anita meeting.
He moved to California in 1972 and became the talk of the town when he saddled a record 60 winners at Hollywood Park. What made this high number of winners even more impressive is that most of the runners were purchased at the claim boxes for between $5 and 10 thousand. Frankel had a knack with these horses and they generally showed huge progress under his care.
