Bob Baffert was born on the 13th of January 1953 in Arizona. He obtained a BSc degree from the University of Arizona in their Racetrack Management Program. Baffert started out his career training American Quarter horses. In 1991 he started to dedicate himself to conditioning thoroughbreds for flat horse races. He was based in California and soon became the top money-winning trainer in the US; receiving the United States Leading Trainer by earnings award 4 times. He won the Eclipse Award for Outstanding Trainer 3 years in a row and was given the "Big Sport of Turfdom Award" in 1997. In 2007 Baffert was inducted into the Lone Star Parks hall of fame. Baffert joined the Board of Directors of the thoroughbred owners of California at the end of June of the same year.
No trainer in recent years has come as close as Baffert has to winning the Triple Crown. He was pipped at the post in the Belmont with Real Quiet, and won the first two legs with Silver Charm and War Emblem as well!
