Big Bird Soars To Maiden Victory At Kenilworth
Author: Marc Weinberg
November 19 - Top trainer Joey Ramsden has always thought highly of Big Bird, a Miesque's Approval colt that I purchased on behalf of a RaceHorseOwner.com syndicate for R350,000. He was my pick of the 2010 Ready To Run Sale, and there was a fierce bidding war with Mr MacDonald. He is now beginning to fulfill some of that potential, and won his first race with something in hand earlier today at Kenilworth Racecourse.
Big Bird started favourite and his supporters had very little to worry about. He rated just off the pace and seemed to relish the step up to 1600m. As the field swung for home Glen Hatt moved early on him and he bounded to the front. The race was over 200m from home and Hatt coasted to victory by just under two lengths.
The issue of course is whether or not he beat anything of quality, but he did win well and seems to have trained on nicely after a juvenile campaign that was a trifle disappointing.
Big Bird has 1 win and 4 places from 7 runs. He has earned R69,390 in stakes.
I will be purchasing horses at the 2012 National Yearling Sales. If you are interested in becoming a shareholder please feel free to contact me via email at webmaster@racehorseowner.com.
