Belmont Stakes Upset Results in Record NY Pick Six - 06-15-08

June 15 - Last weekend's upset at the 2008 Belmont Stakes in Elmont, New York, that saw race favorite, Big Brown, finish stone last and rank outsider, Da' Tara, victorious, had at least one silver lining - it created the largest pick six carryover in NY horseracing history of $1,186,625.

Earlier this week, horseracing fans were scrambling over themselves to try to win a piece of the lucrative $1,186,625 Belmont Stakes rollover pick six action. The first race in the pick six kicked off on Wednesday at 2:30pm (ET), with Reyana's Jet a hot handicappers choice. However, My Dinah ($6.90) crossed the line first.

In race 5, bookies touted Hot Table, Flash of Victory, and Kick Up Your Heels as possible winners. However, Youbethecan ($21) took first place. For race 6, there were many to choose from including Baystreet Bully, Dancing Tin Man, Footloose Man, and Sumphin. It was Willsboro Point ($47.80) who finished first.

Myakka proved to be a favorite choice for race 7, due to her natural ability as a sprinter, and training at the hands of top-rated Linda Rice. Also bouncing around from handicapper to handicapper were maiden winner, Justinline, La Ransom as well as Mine or Who's. True to form, Myakka ($5.30) took the checkered flag.

There was a lot of choice for race 8, with Unbridled Refrain leading the way, who is notably the half-brother of Fortitude, a graded turf stakes winner. Pennington was also an option, along with Betelo, Raynicks Fan, and Cloud Nine. It was Penington ($9.20), however, who turned up the heat to snatch first place.

And finally, race 9. Many handicappers were focusing on Ten Forty to deliver the pick six cash-out victory, with Golden Amulet, E Z Dollar, Newmont and Stand Pat also up for consideration. As it turned out, Ten Forty ($3.70) was a good bet and closed out the lucrative pick six.

Along with the initial carryover of $1,186,625 from Saturday's Belmont Stakes, punters laid down another $3,217,655 on Wednesday, creating a non-Breeders' Cup New York record Pick 6 pool of $4,404,280. As a result, a total of 29 lucky punters each won $103,754. The winning numbers were 2,7,6,9,5 and 10.
