Apache Cat Cleared to Run in Doomben 10 000 - 05-23-08
May 23 - Fans of one of Australia's fastest sprinters, Apache Cat, can
breathe a sigh of relief with news that race stewards have cleared the Group1
champion thoroughbred for tomorrow's Doomben 10,000 in Brisbane.
After Apache Cat underwent a barrage of blood tests this week to
determine the horse's red blood cell count and haemoglobin levels, the
thoroughbred was finally deemed fit and well to compete in the Group 1 1350m
Doomben 10,000 at Doomben Race Course.
Apache Cat grabbed news headlines after an 'anomaly' was reportedly found in his
blood work earlier this week, followed by reports that trainer, Greg Eurell,
advised Reid Sanders, chief steward of Queensland Racing, that he was
'concerned' about the results.
However, after further blood samples were taken from Apache Cat, Sanders said
that he was contacted late yesterday afternoon by Eurell to confirm that the
sprinter would indeed be a paid up entrant for the Doomben 10,000 tomorrow.
Eurell revealed that after a good galloping session yesterday morning, Apache
Cat was in fine form. This confirmed by a track veterinarian who found no
abnormalities with the Group 1 runner. Eurell is expected to conduct another
blood test on Apache next week.
In tomorrow's Doomben 10,000, Apache Cat will be competing for his fifth
straight group 1 victory, which will be reflected in the betting.
