Andre Fabre Is New Trainer Of Captain's Lover - 03-04-08
March 4 - It's hard to find fault with the strategic vision of Barry Irwin, the man behind Team Valor, one of the leading international horse racing syndicates. He buys good quality racehorses on the cheap in South Africa that turn into Group 1 winners like Captain's Lover and Little Miss Magic. Then he moves them to more renowned racing centers like the USA or France, where they earn black type results, and they are then worth a fortune as breeding prospects.
We have long sung the praises of Captain's Lover, spotting her as the best filly in South Africa last year and predicting an international career of note. Now comes the news that Team Valor has shipped her to France where she will be trained by one of the greatest names in the sport, Andre Fabre. It is a coup for all concerned. This is a Group 1 quality horse who will thrive in these racing conditions.
If only other owners and trainers in South Africa could put aside their own hubris for a second and follow this lead think of how much more money they could be making, and of course what kind of results South African bred racehorses could achieve. Many horses from the country require a little give in the ground and are suited to European racing - a prime candidate for this would be Mythical Flight, who should be over there under the guidance of a trainer with international experience.
The other Team Valor runner that is off to France is Little Miss Magic, who will be trained by Alain Royer-Dupre. He guided Tiza to multiple Group race wins last season, and she even ran in one of the biggest sprint races in the world in the Far East - overachieving based on her SA formline. Little Miss Magic is a far more accomplished racehorse than Tiza ever could be, and she could easily emulate those feats this season.
