2012 Queen's Plate Betting Guide And Free Tips

Author: Marc Weinberg

January 3 - The Queen's Plate may only have a total stakes purse of R1 million, but there is little doubt that it is the top mile race in South Africa. Last year it attracted an unbelievable field, and this year's renewal is arguably stronger still. We have the latest 2012 Queen's Plate betting courtesy of Sportingbet SA, and our free tips for the race as well:

Variety Club 9/4
Ebony Flyer 7/2
Bravura 8/1
Link Man 8/1
Gibraltar Blue 10/1
Tales Of Bravery 10/1
Chesalon 16/1
Gimmethegreenlight 16/1
Lion In Winter 25/1
Fabiani 33/1
Kiss Again 33/1

Three stables dominate this race: Joey Ramsden, who sends out Variety Club, Bravura, and Lion In Winter; Mike De Kock, who trains Link Man and Gibraltar Blue; and Justin Snaith, who has entered Ebony Flyer and Gimmethegreenlight. The winner and most of the placed horses will almost certainly come from these runners, although Tales Of Bravery is consistent enough to place.

Variety Club is the best three year old in training, and although drawn wide there are only 11 runners so it should not be a huge factor. Bravura is a brilliant miler in his own right, and is my choice to spring an upset if there is to be one.

On form the one runner that could spoil Ramsden's day is Ebony Flyer. She was third in this race last year, and without any question has the ability to win.

I think the betting flatters Variety Club, simply because it is only January and you're asking a lot of any three year old to win this type of race, especially against horses like Bravura and Ebony Flyer. My tip is those two for the Exacta, with Variety Club to finish a creditable third.
