2008 Cheltenham Festival Free Tips For Day 1 - 03-11-08
March 11 - Our 2008 Cheltenham Festival betting guide is pretty easy to follow. What we've done is provided a brief preview for all the Graded races (four of them) on the Day One card, looked at the horses at the top of the bookies' boards in terms of odds, and then offered two free tips for each race. The first is our pick to win the race, and the second is a value bet or our top longshot. Naturally these horses are more for each-way selections or ones you should definitely include in any exotics bets.
14:00 Supreme Novices' Hurdle Tips
Betting Preview: Wide open race with four horses quoted at the top of the boards. Khyber Kim, Captain Cee Bee (IRE), Muirhead (IRE), and Rippling Ring (SAF) all trading around 8/1.
Top Pick To Win: We like Rippling Ring here. The lethal combination of Nicholls and Walsh could get the festival off to a great start for punters.
Best Longshot betting value: Watch out for Calgary Bay who is 25s in the current betting but is a very genuine sort who could easily finish in the top three here.
14:35 Arkle Challenge Trophy Tips
Betting Preview: Noland is 9/4 and the connections are the same that we like in the first race (Nicholls/Walsh), but this could be a vulnerable favourite. Tidal Bay (IRE), Mahogany Blaze (FR), and Clopf (IRE) are the next three in the betting, all quoted in single figures.
Top Pick To Win: Tidal Bay shapes up as the biggest danger to the favourite and at 6/1 he'll have some of our money behind him.
Best Longshot betting value: Kruguyrova looks like good value trading at 14/1 odds. Must have a shout at that price.
15:15 Champion Hurdle Tips
Betting Preview: This is the big one on the day and the betting suggests a two-horse affair between Sublimity, last year's winner and Sizing Europe. The latter is actually the betting favourite at 9/4 with Sublimity now on offer at 9/2. We disagree with that forecast!
Top Pick To Win: We like Katchit in this spot, and at 8/1 there is nothing wrong with the price at all.
Best Longshot betting value: Have a small dabble on Straw Bear, who is a better horse than the odds would lead one to believe; currently quoted at 25s.
16:00 William Hill Trophy Tips
Betting Preview: An Accordion (IRE) is the ruling favourite at 4/1, and for once we think the bookies have it right with their Cheltenham betting. Others in single figures include Ofarel D'airy (FR), Patsy Hall (IRE), and Abragante.
Top Pick To Win: We're going to pick the favourite in this race. An Accordion (IRE) actually should be shorter than 4s in the betting against this field and is worth a wager.
Best Longshot betting value: Fundamentalist (IRE) at 10/1 has plenty of eachway scope and could easily win this race.
