2008 Cheltenham Festival Antepost Movers - 02-08-08
February 8 - The 2008 Cheltenham Festival is nearly upon us and there has been a lot of betting interest in various Antepost markets for the Festival. We've got the latest movers, a couple of steamers, a Ruby in the rough, and hopefully some advice that won't land up as a "floater" (since scatological terminology seems appropriate when discussing betting on UK horse racing we thought we'd throw in one of our own there).
The market for top jockey at the Cheltenham Festival for 2008 has been influenced by the trainer Paul Nicholls. He looks set to have a hand in many of the big races this year and both his riders have attracted plenty of ante-post betting attention. Ruby Walsh, who was injured earlier this season, will be the number one jockey for the stable and he is the prohibitive 11/10 favourite to be the leading jockey. But Sam Thomas, who was an incredible deputy for the yard when Ruby went down, has his supporters as well. His odds have now been cut from 20s in to 16s.
Between those two lads there are a few other riders in with a chance. At 5/1 we find Tony McCoy and last year's winner of the leading rider trophy, Robert Thornton. Mick Fitzgerald and Denis O'Regan are 10s and Tom Scudamore, who is ou longshot pick is easy to back at 14/1.
Amongst the horses Time Electric has been well supported for the Champion Bumper, in from 6s to 5s. It has been confirmed that he will run at Cheltenham and punters suspect another one of those famous Irish betting coups could be on the cards with this one. No one wants to be left behind in 2008! Air Force One is also getting a lot of antepost betting attention, as is Franchoek and Mahogany Blaze.
