2008 Blue Grass Stakes Betting Tips - 04-11-08
April 11 - The winner of Saturday's 2008 Blue Grass Stakes will have his ticket punched to this year's Kentucky Derby, but for some of the leadng contenders the race is merely a tune-up for the big one and winning this Grade 1 race at Keeneland is not the ultimate mission.
So although Pyro and Cool Coal Man will attract a lot of betting support horseplayers should be aware that they will not have hard races tomorrow. Their trainers, Asmussen and Zito respectively, have both gone on record as saying that they are looking for their horses to come on from this race. There is no point being all out in this spot and having nothing left in the tank for the big race in May.
One horse who will race to win and who should be very well suited by the conditions is Visionaire. The Team Valor horse looked very good when winning the Gotham Stakes last time out and Polytrack will suit his closing style. We're not worried about his outside post position because he'll drop off the pace anyway, and provided he gets a clear path he should win this race.
We never had any doubt that Team Valor and Michael Matz would race Visionaire here, and we expect him to reverse form with Pyro, who beat him the last time these two met.
If you're looking for a longshot to add to your Exotic bets for this race don't ignore Miner's Claim, another horse who likes the synthetic surface, but bet on Visionaire to win the Blue Grass Stakes.
